My local liquor store had a handful of vanilla vodkas, including the pricier Skyy. (There’s no way I could afford dropping another $35 on a new cocktail experiment like I did for the Death Spasm Cocktail – though I still have that bottle of absinthe!) Plus, these are two types of liquor that are quite tasty on their own, so it’d be hard to make something icky with them. I am super happy this cocktail did not break the bank – both vanilla and vodka and blue curacao are very cheap. If you make a purchase after clicking one, I may receive a small commission at no cost to you. Milhern’s simultaneously, and has a really pretty color! My sonic screwdriver tips its hat to the classic AND Ms. The point is, any ol’ college student can put together a screwdriver. One I’ll tell you someday because believe me, I learned my lesson! It’s also the drink that kicked off the one and only evening I ever got black-out drunk… But that’s a story for another time. It’s easy, it’s cheap, it’s a bar staple! Most adults (okay, most people who’ve ever had a drink, ever) are aware of the original screwdriver recipe: vodka and orange juice. But Doctor Who’s tool sometimes glows blue, sometimes green… So I made the slightest of modifications to help Liz’s recipe “glow” both ways, so to speak. The thing about her recipe, though, is that it remains a very crystal-like blue color. No worries! Plenty of people kept her recipe alive, and it’s a pretty simple one: vanilla vodka, blue curacao (instead of orange juice), and clear lemon-lime soda. Liz apparently published the cocktail recipe in her “online journal” (does that just mean a blog, before they were all called blogs?), but I wasn’t able to track down said site, so I assume it no longer exists. (The sonic screwdriver is an extremely versatile tool used in the show, with many different versions.) She just wanted something cool and nerdy to drink while watching her favorite show, Doctor Who. The old fashioned screwdriver is a classic, and someone else created a “sonic screwdriver” (without orange juice) at least a decade ago.Īccording to several places on the internet, the original recipe was invented in 2007 by an (I assume) lovely lady named Liz Milhern from Omaha, Nebraska. This sonic screwdriver cocktail recipe isn’t technically original.
